FIRE SAFETY THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE
Don’t be one of the over 5,600 Americans who die in fires
every year. Follow these easy tips to
stay safe in your home.
- Install
a smoke detector on every level of your home.
- Check
your smoke detector batteries monthly.
- Post
emergency numbers near your phone.
- Keep
doors, hallways and stairs clear of obstructions.
- Plan
your escape routes in case fire does strike.
- Do NOT
smoke in bed
- Do NOT
place heaters within 3 feet of flammable materials.
- Do NOT
use heaters to dry clothes
- Do NOT
use extension cords with portable heaters.
- Do NOT
leave heaters unattended or sleep while they are on.
- Do
unplug heaters after you have turned them off.
- Do NOT
put ashtrays on chairs or sofa arms.
- Do NOT
staple electrical cords to walls or otherwise pierce the insulation.
- Do NOT
leave unattended cigarettes burning in ashtrays.
- Do NOT
run electrical cords under rugs, over nails or in high traffic areas.
- Do
clean chimneys yearly.
- Don’t
leave food unattended on the stove.
- Don’t
cook while wearing sleeves that can dangle near burners.
- Don’t
let grease build up on your stove or oven.
- Don’t
let crumbs build up I your toaster.
- Don’t
overload electrical outlets with appliances.
- Don’t
let curtains hang near your range.
- Do
check the kitchen before bed. Is
the oven off? Is the coffee pot unplugged?
