2006 Flag Day Activities-June 14, 2006

 

8:00 a.m  Flag Raising Ceremony at the Jefferson County Court House.  Color Guard from VFW Post # 3522, Charles Town.  Jefferson Co Commission President, Greg Corliss to lead the pledge of allegiance.  Special guests include members of Jefferson Co CERT, Boy Scout Troop 66 of Charles Town, and members of the Jefferson Co Law Enforcement Community.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend the flag raising ceremony as we celebrate the 249th birthday of Old Glory!

 

9:00-3:00  Volunteers to deliver “Disaster Preparedness for People with Special Needs/Disabilities” and “Disaster Preparedness for Seniors by Seniors” to various agencies throughout the county who represent Seniors and Special Needs Clients.

 

9:00-3:00   Volunteers to deliver “Getting Ready” books to various businesses throughout the county for distribution to their customers.

 

9:00 – 3:00   Volunteers to read Disaster Preparedness Stories (age appropriate) to children in day care centers throughout the County.

 

3:00-5:00 p.m.  Premier Presentation of  “Is Your Family Prepared for an Emergency?” (Assessing your risk, making a disaster plan, tips for specific emergencies).  Participants will be given a copy of the publication, “Are You Ready? An In-Depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness,” while they last.  This special presentation will be held at the Jefferson County Public Meeting Room in the basement of the Old Charles Town Library at 200 E. Washington Street in Charles Town, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.  Please use the Samuel Street Entrance.

 

6:30 p.m.  National Incident Management (IS-700) Class to be taught in the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management.  Pre-registration for this class is necessary.  Contact bmiller@jeffersoncountywv.org or 728-3329.  This course, as well as additional courses, is required for NIMS Compliancy for Mayors, Councilpersons, County Commissioners, Emergency Responders and anyone who may work or volunteer during any crisis or emergency.  If you are a member of any of these groups who has not yet completed your IS-700 NIMS Training, please call today to sign up.  This class is free.
