Jefferson County Office of Homeland Security began under a FEMA Project Impact Grant in 2001 that funded this organization through mid-2004. In December, 2003, the Jefferson County Commission approved a name change (from Jefferson County Project Impact to Jefferson County Office of Homeland Security) for the organization that took affect in January, 2004. The Jefferson County Office of Homeland Security Steering Committee was designated by the Jefferson County Commission as the group that will operate the Citizens Corp activities within Jefferson County, including the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Program. Jefferson County Office of Homeland Security is carrying out a mission that will bring greater emphasis and improved focus on activities that the Jefferson County Community can undertake in the pre-disaster timeframe to reduce our vulnerability to both natural and human-caused disaster losses. We have committees on: Partnership Development, Public Awareness & Education, Risk Assessment and All Hazards Mitigation Planning, Counter Terrorism, People with Special Needs and Animals in Disaster. Quarterly Partnership Meetings are held where all Partners are invited to share in a subject interesting to the entire Partnership, to find out what other committees and members are doing, and to share in networking time with other partners. If you have not yet joined our organization, you are invited to do so today! There is no cost to join. You need only to have the desire to make our community and your organization more disaster resistant. |
