West Virginia Office of Broadband Presents on Upcoming Deployment

Post Date:05/13/2024 4:41 PM

At the May 2, 2024, Jefferson County Commission meeting, Luke Peters with the West Virginia Office of Broadband presented on how the State of West Virginia plans to use the $1.2 billion allocated to the State of West Virginia to accomplish universal broadband deployment—broadband at every home and business.

Universal broadband deployment in Jefferson County is expected to be expensive—between $30-$40 million dollars.  Although broadband deployment is generally good, when compared to the rest of the State, getting to the “last mile” accounts for the large price tag.  The cost of universal broadband deployment in Jefferson County is anticipated to be the fourth most expensive county to accomplish universal deployment.  This price tag also makes the universal broadband project the largest planned economic development project in Jefferson County.

To learn more about the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program and universal deployment in Jefferson County, see Luke’s presentation here.
