Last week, the Jefferson County Commission hired as its second Shepherd Fellow to work in the Jefferson County Development Authority (JCDA)- Justin Butcher.
At the May 21, 2024, JCDA board meeting, the JCDA unanimously selected Justin Butcher to serve as the Summer Shepherd Fellow and to forward the recommendation on to the Commission. The Commission similarly voted unanimously to hire Butcher.
Mr. Butcher grew up on a dairy farm in Jefferson County and is in his senior year at Shepherd University. He is especially interested in assisting the JCDA in agribusiness and facilitating the development of a meat processor in the County.
The Shepherd University Fellowship program began with the Spring 2024 semester and connects a student’s classroom work with work experience in economic development.
