CHARLES TOWN, WV (June 11, 2026) – Valley Link Transmission has informed the Jefferson County Commission that it will begin conducting studies and hosting public information sessions related to the proposed Valley North Transmission Project. Although the Commission has no oversight of the project and does not participate in the regulatory approval process, the Commission has heard from many concerned residents and is sharing the information it has received so residents are aware of the project and understand how they may engage in the public process.

The Commission understands that many residents have significant concerns regarding the potential impacts of this project on private property, agriculture, historic resources, scenic viewsheds, and the character of our communities. We have heard those concerns and recognize that many property owners are seeking information about what this proposal could mean for them.

It is important for residents to understand that the Jefferson County Commission does not oversee, regulate, approve, or deny this project. The project is being developed by Valley Link Transmission and is subject to state and federal regulatory processes outside the authority of county government. Residents should direct project-specific comments, concerns, and questions through the public engagement and regulatory processes established for the project.

According to information provided by Valley Link Transmission, the Valley North Project is a proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line extending from Putnam County, West Virginia, to Frederick County, Maryland.

Residents who wish to learn more or provide feedback are encouraged to participate directly in the public involvement process. Valley Link has announced a public open house for Jefferson County on:
