Jefferson County Sheriff Tom Hansen Elected President of West Virginia Association of County Officials

CHARLES TOWN, WV (June 12, 2026) – The Jefferson County Commission proudly congratulates Jefferson County Sheriff Tom Hansen on being sworn in as President of the West Virginia Association of County Officials (WVACo), the statewide organization representing county governments across West Virginia.
As President of WVACo, Sheriff Hansen will bring together county commissioners, county clerks, circuit clerks, assessors, prosecuting attorneys, and sheriffs from across the State. WVACo helps shape discussions on issues affecting local government, advocates for counties before state leaders, and supports the continued professionalism and effectiveness of county government throughout West Virginia.
Commission President Pasha Majdi praised Hansen's election as a point of pride for Jefferson County.
“Jefferson County is proud to see one of our constitutional officers selected to lead an organization that represents county governments across West Virginia,” said Majdi. “As one of the State's fastest-growing counties, Jefferson County has consistently worked to lead by example, and Sheriff Hansen's election reflects the professionalism, expertise, and commitment to public service that our county officials bring to their work every day. We are honored to have Jefferson County represented in this important statewide leadership role.”
Sheriff Hansen joined the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in 1995 and served in numerous roles, including patrol deputy, detective, field training officer, and the department's first School Resource Officer at Jefferson High School. Following a distinguished law enforcement career, he was elected Sheriff of Jefferson County in 2020 and began his second term in January 2025.
Although WVACo represents officials from all 55 counties in West Virginia, Jefferson County's selection to lead the organization reflects the county's growing role in shaping the future of local government in the State.
The Jefferson County Commission congratulates Sheriff Hansen on this achievement and looks forward to his leadership on behalf of counties across West Virginia.
