CHARLES TOWN, WV (March 3, 2026) – The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office is the first department to open to the public in the new Jefferson County Government Center at 393 North Lawrence Street. Effective Monday, March 2, 2026, the Clerk’s County Finance Office and Voter Registration & Elections Office are now operating from the new facility.
The relocation represents the first public-facing step in Jefferson County’s transition to a centralized government complex — an investment years in the making to modernize operations, improve accessibility, and bring county services into a coordinated campus setting. As additional departments transition in phases, residents will increasingly experience a more streamlined and professional government environment.
As the first offices to welcome residents into the building, the Clerk’s team is setting the tone for the next chapter of county service. The Government Center provides enhanced public access, improved parking, upgraded technology infrastructure, and secure, purpose-built space designed to support both staff and constituents. Over time, the complex will house nearly all County services in one location, simplifying the way residents interact with their local government.
Jefferson County Clerk Jacki Shadle reflected on the significance of the move, “For many of us, our former offices represent decades of public service — elections administered, financial records maintained, and neighbors helped at important moments in their lives,” said Clerk Shadle. “It is bittersweet to leave behind a place that holds so much history. At the same time, this new facility allows us to serve our constituents in a more accessible, secure, and welcoming environment. We are proud to be the first to open our doors here and to continue building on that legacy of service.”
The Jefferson County Commission views the opening as a foundational milestone in its broader effort to strengthen infrastructure, support staff, and elevate the constituent experience. Additional departments will relocate to the Government Center in phases throughout the coming months.
Residents seeking services from the County Finance Office or the Voter Registration & Elections Office should now visit 393 North Lawrence Street, Charles Town, WV 25414.
