Thanks to the collaboration between ESA and Bakerton FD the agency has four new Swift Water Technicians who are now completely certified and ready to continue forward with further boat training and development of skills to help expand the all-hazard services the agency provides to the community.
We are very proud of these men and women as this class was VERY demanding mentally and physically. They are beat up pretty good with bumps and bruises, but they accomplished a course that very few are interested in let alone actually making it through.
The class was instructed by Rescue 3 International and was three 8-hour days give or take a few, the course involved classroom instruction and hands on instruction including ropes, rafting, aggressive swims, scenario, based rescues, self-rescue techniques and much more.
Congratulations to JCESA’ Swift Water Rescuers: C. Pultz, E. Hernandez, B. Chaney, E. Shade, AJ Biller, and J. Smith.

Today, 09/19/2023 Chief Mike Sine presented Firefighter/EMT Ed Hernandez with the Meritorious Service award for his actions in providing the upmost highest level of patient care during an MVA on August 30, 2023, that included multiple injuries and entrapments. He assisted in translating, as the primary language of those involved were Spanish, along with triage, treatment, reassurance, moving, and transporting patients.
Ed “single-handedly” made this call work and helped get everyone where they needed to be. His actions during this incident distinguished him from the standard performance expected of the position.
Hernandez was awarded a certificate and uniform ribbon, and a plaque memorializing the award will permanently remain on the lobby wall of the JCESA building.
