Building Code Enforcement Ordinance
The Building Code Enforcement Ordinance requires that all structures constructed in Jefferson County are to comply with the requirements of the International Residential Code (IRC) and/or the International Building Code (IBC), which shall be the most recent version adopted by the State of West Virginia. The requirement for building permits and inspections includes but is not limited to: residential and commercial/industrial structures, remodeling and renovation projects, building additions, finished basements, detached garages, car ports, wood stoves, plumbing, mechanical or electrical work, signs, fences of 6' height or taller, sheds/storage buildings, garages, and swimming pools/hot tubs.
Building permit application forms and the permit fee schedule are available by contacting the Office of Building Permits & Inspections. The International Building Codes are available for review in the Office of Permits & Inspections or can be purchased from the International Code Council at http://www.iccsafe.org
