Property Safety Ordinance
The Property Safety Ordinance deals with unsafe structures in Jefferson County which are both abandoned and dilapidated. Complaints are required to be submitted to the Property Safety Enforcement Agency board in person by presenting them to the board at their board meeting. The Citizens Guide to the Property Safety Ordinance is provided to aid in understanding the ordinance and the information needed to present a complaint. The Citizens Guide to the Property Safety Ordinance and the Complaint Form are available by contacting the Office of Building Permits & Inspections.
The Property Safety Enforcement Agency Board meets quarterly on the 4th Wednesday of January, April, July, and October, at 6:30 p.m. in the Charles Town Library meeting room, 200 East Washington Street, basement side entrance on Samuel Street, Charles Town, West Virginia. Contact the Office of Permits & Inspections prior to attending for any possible meeting schedule changes.
