The Jefferson County Clerk's Office keeps official records of births, marriages, and deaths that occur in Jefferson County. Our records date back to 1801 for marriages and 1853 for births and deaths. In terms of obtaining vital records, West Virginia is not an "open record" state.

  • present valid identification
  • pay a $5.00 fee per certificate

Please include the following items:
  • request letter
  • a photocopy of your photo identification (e.g., driver's license, state-issued identification, etc.)
  • a check or money order of $5.00 payable to the Jefferson County Clerk
