July 10 - Incendio |
Incendio has legions of fans throughout the United States from two decades of extensive touring and they have a strong international audience from their previous eight best-selling albums. In addition, the guitar-playing members of the group — Jim Stubblefield, Jean-Pierre Durand and Liza Carbe — have their own recordings released, and all three (as well as their drummer Timothy Curle) have performed and recorded with many others acts.“The music of Incendio is hard to categorize,” says Stubblefield. “One moment it sounds like modern flamenco, then a more diverse world-fusion blend. You might hear elements of roots rock, progressive rock, Latin dance music, plus diverse seasonings sprinkled in containing hints of funk, folk, jazz, pop and classical. Fortunately our fans have come to expect us to change it up. Our only criteria is to make entertaining music.” Food Vendors: Haulin' Butts BBQ, Amy & Alex Ice Cream |
July 17 - Betty Soo |
Raised outside Houston by first-generation Korean immigrant parents, educated at UT, she grew up listening to the Great American songbook and country radio. Older sisters led her to the world of singer/songwriters, and nights spent at The Cactus Café and Hole In The Wall turned her on to the legacy of Texas song. Her singing has been heard on Riverdale and Girl Boss, and her songs formed the musical backbone to Christine Hoang’s 2017 play A Girl Named Sue, singled out by Austin360.com in their review as “gorgeous, moving ballads comment(ing) on the themes of the scenes they punctuate.” Food Vendors: Haulin' Butts BBQ, Amy & Alex Ice Cream |
July 24 - Kaira Ba |
Kaira Ba ecstatically explores the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal’s millennia-old Mandé culture. Bandleader Diali Cissokho chose the name “Kaira Ba” (meaning “The Great Peace”) because it elegantly reflects a core value that he and his band aim to express when they perform. July 31 - Lone Piñon |
Lone Piñon is a New Mexican string band, or “orquesta típica”, whose music celebrates the integrity and diversity of their region's cultural roots. The Norte has long been a crossroads of cultures, and centuries of intersecting histories, trade routes, migrations, and cultural movements have endowed the region with an expansive and rich musical heritage that weaves together Spanish, Mexican, Indigenous, European immigrant, Anglo-American, and Afro-American musical influences.
