The Commission has secured the services of LPDA, Inc. a Sterling, Virginia based Landscape Architecture firm to develop the Master Plan. LPDA and the Commission have worked with stakeholders representing several groups, as well as taken input from the general public to develop a program and preliminary design for James Hite Park that will facilitate the needs of the active and passive recreation user in Jefferson County. The plan includes fitness, walking trails, baseball, softball, soccer fields, football fields, basketball and tennis courts, tot lots and playgrounds, a skate park, a dog park, a mini golf course, and supporting facilities.
The Master Plan also incorporates a high emphasis on passive recreation opportunities and includes a series of picnic pavilions and shelters and outdoor games to take advantage of the 119 acre site's natural amenities and treed areas.
Construction on the park began Spring 2015. Phase 1 will include soccer and football fields, parking areas, and a 2 mile walking trail. Phase 1 will be open for public use Fall 2016.
The 2 mile walking trail opened for public use Summer 2016.
